Blumenkrantz is the founder and executive director of The Center
for the Advancement of Youth, Family & Community Services, and
the developer of the Rite of Passage Experience®.
Dr. Blumenkrantz has over 35 years of experience
in the fields of youth development and community services,
and is a sought-after seminar leader and speaker in these fields.
He is the author of Fulfilling the Promise of Children’s Services
(Jossey-Bass, 1992), along with numerous articles about youth and
family issues for professional journals, newspapers and magazines.
Dr. Blumenkrantz has served on the
legislatively mandated State of Connecticut Drug & Alcohol Policy
Council, and on Connecticut legislative and agency-based committees
on teen pregnancy, substance abuse and delinquency prevention. He
has also been a Visiting Fellow at the Bush Center for Social Policy
and Child Development at Yale University. He is presently an advisor
to the Search Institute's Center for Spiritual Development in Childhood
and Adolescence.
Dr. Blumenkrantz has also held positions
as the Director of Community Resources for Justice, Inc., a community-based
youth and adult criminal justice organization in Hartford, CT; Director
of the Wethersfield Youth and Human Services Departments, Wethersfield,
CT; and Director of Associates in Counseling & Training, Glastonbury,
CT. He also served as a Youth Services Officer and Chairman of the
Institutional Review Board for Long Lane School, Connecticut’s
residential maximum-security facility for adjudicated juvenile offenders,
where he developed the Outdoor Challenge Program.
Dr. Blumenkrantz holds a BA in psychology
from the State University of New York at Buffalo, an MEd in educational
psychology from Boston College, and a PhD in Community Psychology
& Social Policy from the Union Institute. He is also a nationally
Certified and Licensed Alcoholism and Drug Counselor and a Certified
Prevention Professional. In addition, he has studied with indigenous
peoples throughout North America, researching ancient rite of passage
ceremonies and rituals and approaches to building and healing communities.
